Oh I do love a bit of Bierce. Many years ago in the early days of the internet, someone posted a devil's derivatives dictionary which was a combination of bs-like humor and quite useful financial knowledge. It it seemed to disappear and I could never find it again, but I have a sort of ad hoc glossary that I maintain in tribute to the great “dictioners” that went before me!
I just noticed you have given a nod to the inimitable Ambrose Bierce on your Wiki page. I love Bierce, what a remarkable mind from such a humble background. Whenever I quote him or bring his name up, nobody seems to have heard of him. This quote from his Devil's Dictionary usually piques their interest:
Dog - a kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the world's worship.
I will relish your "meagre contribution" to the tradition.
Another excellent post. I was recently listening to a podcast about Ellis, what a character. And what a truly disturbing case. The Satanic Panic of that era caused those heinous accusations that convicted Ellis.

Side note, have you seen this atrocity and hubris: https://musingsonceinawhile.substack.com/p/letby-and-the-insulin-cases-overcoming
It made me return to this The Jolly Contrarian post to replenish IQ points lost reading that drivel.
Thank you for all your ongoing efforts. You, McConville, and A Liberated Mind on YT are always voices of reason in an ocean of Pseudomonas.
